Why Electric?
Our cars have been primary running on fossil fuel since the Ford Model T. We first drilled for oil in 1853. The peak of discovery of oilfields came in 1965, and demand for oil has never stopped growing since. Oil has become such an integral part of our lives that we have almost taken it for granted: just drop by the petrol station if you’re out of gas. Right now, about 90% of fuel used by vehicles comes from crude oil production. However, production of oil is expected to taper down from 2030. With diminishing supply and rising costs, automobile users will no longer be able to rely on petroleum-based cars in the future.
Declining supply and increasing costs isn’t the only thing affecting us. The petroleum industry is not only a major contributor of greenhouse gases and particulate matter in the air, but is also responsible for water pollution not just from oil spills, but from the process of oil refinement too.
Electric vehicles are clean, quiet, and environmentally friendly. Compared to fuel-combustion vehicles, they are also much more efficient in energy utilization. As the cessation of oil production is an eventuality, electric vehicles are inevitably the way forward, utilizing clean and sustainable energy.
